Introducing Canadian Hardwood Supplies

Introducing Canadian Hardwood Supplies

Wondering where to buy lumber in Toronto? We’ve got you covered. Recently, we launched Canadian Hardwood Supplies, where you can now purchase locally-sourced lumber. This new venture was inevitable, as we’ve been sourcing quality lumber from an Ontario Wood Partner for quite some time now and we’re passionate about offering sustainable wood.

An Easier Way to Buy Lumber in Toronto

Today, we work with an amazing supplier. But in the beginning, sourcing wasn’t easy. When we started out we struggled to source lumber. We had a downtown Toronto location, and we were forced to drive 50km outside of the city to source lumber. (Because Canadian Hardwood Supplies is right in the heart of Toronto, you will never ever have to do that. We wouldn’t wish it upon anyone!)

Ontario Wood Partner

Our lumber supplier is an Ontario Wood Partner.

Ontario Wood was introduced to raise awareness of locally-grown, locally-made wood products and encourage Ontarians to buy local. As you may know, at Son of a Woodcutter we’re committed to building with local materials, so this is very important to us.

According to Ontario Wood, in order for wood to be considered Ontario wood, at least 75% of the wood product must be from trees that are local to or are commercially grown in Ontario and are harvested from sustainably managed forests in Ontario

Wood Species We Carry

We offer a variety of wood species in a variety of sizes. We offer ash, ambrosia maple (sometimes known as wormy maple), cherry, white oak, and our personal favourite, walnut.

If you’d like to learn more about the species we carry, click here. Each type of wood has elements that make it unique and suitable for a variety of projects.

All of the lumber is dried slowly in a kiln, the way it should me. By using this method, it makes the wood more stable and less prone to movement.

Hand-Selected Toronto Lumber

When you purchase lumber from Son of a Woodcutter,  you can rest assured that you’re getting high-quality materials. We’re proud to supply the same quality of lumber as we use in our own commissions. Because we believe that great woodworking deserves the best materials. All of our lumber is hand-selected right here in Toronto. No more looking through 100 boards just to find a good one.
