Here’s what you need to know about ordering custom wood furniture

Here’s what you need to know about ordering custom wood furniture

We love building custom pieces here at Son of a Woodcutter  – it’s what makes us who we are as a company. Our goal is to help our clients achieve their vision of what’s possible – bringing that vision to life to create beautiful pieces for your home, just as unique as you are. For years, we’ve been building custom wood tables, shelves, desks and more in the heart of Toronto, made with Canadian materials and sustainable Ontario wood. We’ll work with you to build to your specifications so that the final product is the perfect fit for your home or interior design project.

So how does it work?

Customers who are interested in working together to build a custom piece can reach out to us directly at sales@sonofawoodcutter.ca. We’ll chat with you to get a better feel of what it is that you’re looking for so that we can provide you with a quote.

Here’s what we’ll need to get started.

Quantity

Of course, we’ll need to know how many pieces you are looking for. Are you looking for one custom wood table for your dining room, or ten custom-built desks for an office?

A Visual Reference

A visual reference is probably the best way to communicate what you are looking for. This can be anything from a photo you found online to a sketch. Feel free to send us your doodles, links and screenshots! You can also send us a photo of the room that the furniture will live in. This can be especially helpful if you are working with a tight space.

Approximate Dimensions

What size does your furniture need to be? We’ll want to know your dimensions requirements. If there is a small space you are trying to accomodate, you can let us know those measurements and we will work with you to determine what would be the best option for the fit. Another consideration, is if you are ordering a table, how many people do you want it to seat? Our dining table seating guide is a great resource for determining the size of your dining table.

Wood Species and Colour

Do you have a preference in wood species? What about the colour of your table? We work with many different Ontario wood species, such as Walnut, Ambrosia Maple and Oak. We can tell you which wood species fits your needs in terms of look and feel, hardness and durability.

Common Questions

Here are some common questions we get when it comes to custom tables. You can also take a look at our FAQ.

How long will it take to build?

There are a number of factors that influence the time it takes to build a custom piece, such as size, complexity, and the number of custom orders we currently have. Our turnaround time for a custom piece is usually about 4-6 weeks. However, it can be longer or shorter depending on current workload and complexity of the piece.

When will my furniture be delivered?

Once your project has been completed, we will reach out to schedule a delivery.

Do you deliver outside of the GTA?

Yes, we offer custom furniture delivery outside of the GTA. Delivery fees are dependent on the distance of the location as well as the size/weight of the piece that is being delivered. Sometimes we will deliver the piece personally. Sometimes we use a third party. Sometimes the piece is crated and shipped. Again, this is dependent on the location and size of the shipment.
